Colorado became the envy of the nation when we passed a law to legalize the recreational use of cannabis in 2012.  Living in Colorado gave us as Colorado CBD Products the opportunity to learn about cannabis and its benefits without the risk of punishment or shame.  Our company was founded by a group of Colorado natives that have several years of experience working in the cannabis industry.  Our mission is to educate people to the benefits of cannabis, especially for pain.  We also are strong supporters of using cannabis for mental illnesses like depression and PTSD.  In an age where the abuse of pharmaceutical drugs is out of control, we want to teach people about using cannabis as a natural remedy to combat physical and mental ailments.

Cannabis: Hemp v. Marijuana

In years past, cannabis was primarily thought to get you “high”. However, cannabis is a very complex plant.  There are different varietals of cannabis.  Both marijuana and hemp come from the cannabis sativa species, but marijuana also comes from the cannabis indica species. Hemp differs from marijuana in appearance; marijuana has full, flowering leaves and hemp has thin and shiny leaves. But, they don’t just look different, their chemical makeup varies as well.

Perhaps the biggest difference between hemp and marijuana is the level of THC; the psychoactive element that leads to the feeling of being “high” when consumed. THC is a cannabinoid; naturally occurring elements in the cannabis plant. Marijuana, depending on the strain, can contain THC levels of up to 30%.  On the other hand, the THC concentration in hemp is minimal.  In order to be legal to be consumed in the United States, the THC level in hemp products needs to be 0.3% or less.

Hemp, on the other hand is extremely rich in cannabidiol, also known as CBD; another one of the hundreds of cannabinoids found in both marijuana and hemp.  However, because of hemp’s extremely low THC levels, CBD derived from hemp has become liquid gold in the area of natural and holistic medicine.
